Hemp 101
Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa L plant and refers to the non-intoxicating (less than 0.3% THC) strains. Both Hemp and marijuana come from the same cannabis species, but have different genetics and cannabinoid profiles, with hemp rich in the non-euphoric (Non-High) cannabidiol (CBD) and marijuana producing mostly psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Hemp oil can refer to CBD rich full spectrum oil extracted from phytocannabinoid rich flowers, leaves and stems of the Cannabis sativa plant or to hempseed oil. Unlike full spectrum hemp oil, hempseed oil does not contain CBD or other cannabinoids and is obtained by cold pressing hemp seeds.
Hemp oil extracted from the stalks, leaves, and flowers of the hemp plant will contain CBD and is typically referred to as full spectrum hemp oil or CBD Oil. Hemp seed oil made from the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant does not contain CBD or other cannabinoids.
CBD Basics
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a phytocannabinoid produced by the Cannabis sativa L plant. This means that unlike the endocannabinoids synthesized inside of our body, CBD is found in hemp. Regarded for its various benefits, CBD interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system. Research suggests that the major pathway for CBD’s actions is the inhibition of the breakdown of the endocannabinoid anandamide, just one of many endocannabinoids produced by our bodies and potentially impacted by CBD use.

CBD oil is made from hemp plants. Typically, the flowers of Cannabis sativa strains rich in CBD and low in THC are processed to extract cannabinoids and terpenes, diluted with a carrier oil like coconut and turned into CBD oil products.
CBD oil made from full spectrum hemp extracts typically has very small amounts of THC (less than 0.3%). This amount of THC is not enough to have intoxicating effects or make you feel high, it is extremely negligible.
